Transferring data
Globus simplifies transferring large amounts of data between different storage systems.
Compared to traditional methods like rsync
or scp
, it offers several advantages:
Reliability: Globus automatically resumes transfers if they are interrupted by network issues.
Performance: It uses parallel data streams to achieve higher transfer speeds than most other methods.
Convenience: You can start a transfer and close your laptop. Globus runs in the background and emails you upon completion.
How to Transfer Data
The process for transferring data is managed via the File Manager in your browser, which provides a two-pane interface to select a source and a destination.
Example: Transferring data to Viking

Select your destination: In the right pane, search for the appropriate Viking collection and select it. Navigate to the folder where you want to place the data. The available collections are:
Start the transfer: Click the blue Start button above the left pane to begin the transfer. You will receive a notification that your task has been submitted, and you can monitor its progress in the Activity tab.
